With the opening of the new, larger pole of FieraMilano in Rho and Pero, Fieramilanocity has lost importance, and several former buildings of the fair trade have been closed (only 11 remain out of the 26 that were part of the fair in 1997-2006).Fieramilanocity was established in 1906, on the occasion of the World's Fair and the opening of the Simplon Tunnel.

Fieramilanocity and Portello are part of the Zone 8 administrative division.

In the early 1920s the fair trade was temporarily moved in the Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli city park in the Porta Venezia district, but in 1923 the Fieramilanocity area was permanently elected as the main pole of Milan's fair trade, a role that it kept until 2005, when the new pole in Rho-Pero was opened.

The Fieramilanocity was especially dedicated to technology and trade, while the Parco Sempione area was dedicated to science and art.

Fieramilanocity (formerly known as Fiera Campionaria) is the older of the two poles of the FieraMilano trade fair in Milan, Italy; the name is also sometimes used to refer to the surrounding district ("quartiere"), when this is to be distinguished from the larger district of Portello, which includes the fair zone.
