Zubin Mehta is an Indian conductor, born in Bombay on April 29, 1936. Zubin Mehta was born into a family with aristocratic Parsi. His father Mehli Mehta, violiniste, founded and directed the Bombay Symphony Orchestra. Zubin intended first to medicine, but after two semesters in this way, he changed direction and studied music in Vienna, at the Vienna Academy under the direction of Hans Swarowsky and, in 1958, is in the same citydebut of conductor. The same year, he won the international competition of Orchestra (International Conducting Competition) in Liverpool, resulting in his appointment as a Deputy of the royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conductor. Mehta became soon head holder when he is appointed Music Director of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal in 1960, a position he held until 1967.Il is then the same position at the Philharmonic Orchestra of Los Angeles from 1962 to 1978 and then to the Philharmonic in New York from 1978 to 1991, becoming the Chief occupying this position the longest in the history of the Orchestra. It was under his leadership that was performed in 1978 by Vladimir Horowitz third concerto for piano and Orchestra (op. 30) by Sergei Rachmaninov. He directed also the Philharmonic Orchestra of Israel since 1968, first as a musical Advisor and then became its artistic director for life in 1981.De 1998 to 2006, he is also Director artistic Opera of State of Bavaria in Munich. In June 1994, the Symphony Orchestra and the choir of Sarajevo interpreter Mozart Requiem under the direction of Zubin Mehta in the ruins of the national library in Sarajevo, the funds collected on this occasion to the victims of the Yugoslav conflict. August 29, 1999, he led the second Symphony of Mahler "resurrection" near Buchenwald concentration camp in the German city of Weimar, the Bavarian Opera Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Israel playing side by side. He toured in his country and his town of origin, the India and Mumbai, in 1984, with the Philharmonic Orchestra of New York, and then in November-December 1994, with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Israel, with soloists Itzhak Perlman and Gil Shaham. 1 January 1990, 1995, 1998 and 2007, he had the honour of leading the Vienna Philharmonic at the traditional new year Concert.
