The Wailing Souls (literally sanglotantes souls) is a group of composed of Winston Jamaican reggae 'Pipe' matthews, Lloyd 'bread' McDonald, George 'Buddy' Hague and Rudolph 'Garth' Dennis formed in the mid 1960.Souvent compared to Bob Marley, the voice of Pipe Matthews has made this trainingnominated 8 times for the Grammy Awards, one of the most recognized of roots reggae. The Wailing Souls group formed in the 1960s, initially under the name of The Renegades, about Winston 'Pipe' as a vocal leader, Lloyd 'Bread' McDonald and George Matthews 'buddy' Hague. Having spent his youth in Kingston, Matthews has learned to sing since the beginning of the 1960s alongside Joe Higgs. With his group, The Schoolboys, he was noticed by Prince Buster, for whom he recorded several singles including Little Boy Blue and Dream Lover. The Group separates in 1965 but Matthews soon returned with the Group The Renegades, they record in 1968 the voice for some singles under their own name for the Lost Love single then Ernest Ranglin. They then work for Sir Coxsone Dodd outgoing several singles including the first Back Out With It and Fire Coal Man on the pace of Burning In My Soul the Silvertones. Later in the year 1968, Hague left the group while Matthews and McDonald joined the singers Norman Davis and Oswald Downes. It is when they decide to take the name of Wailing Souls.
