The Offspring is a group of American punk rock formed in 1984 in Huntington Beach, California, by Dexter Holland and Greg Kriesel (Greg K). They hire Doug Thompson as a singer and drummer, Holland enlists one of the friends of Thompson, Jim Benton. The group is then called Manic Subsidal. Quickly, Thompson is ejected group, which also involves the departure of Benton. Holland then takes the place of singer and guitarist. "Nobody wanted to sing, therefore I am abandoned me and I learned...". Kevin Wasserman (a.k.a. Noodles), the janitor of the school, joining them together with James Lilja. Without any talent of guitarist, the hiring of Noodles is motivated largely by his age (21 years) and therefore the fact that it can buy alcohol, while Holland and Kriesel are not major. Noodles must therefore learn to play guitar in order to remain in the group. Manic Subsidal then changes its name to The Offspring in 1985.
