Albums by the group under Wooden Nickel, Styx (1972), Styx II (1973), The Serpent Is Rising (1974) and Man of Miracles (also 1974) were a combination of rock that it would call "classical" today, elements of progressive rock with the ambitions of the Rock Art. In relying on these albums, and a constant presence in schools and clubs, the Group managed to establish a local fan base in the Chicago area but was unable break at the national level before 1975 at this timeThe Ballad Lady (from the album Styx II) began to play on local radio, and then through the United States. In the spring of 1975, two years after the release of the album which it is, Lady reached the top 10, and Styx II was certified gold shortly after. On the momentum of this late success, Styx signed with AandM Records and launched the album Equinox (1975), which was sold well and was a minor success in Lorelei. But in Quebec, the song Suite Madame Blue, composed for the bicentenary of the independence of the United States (1776-1976), triggered the start of their heyday. Like many other rock artists, be it Genesis, Pink Floyd, Shawn Phillips, Chris de Burgh, The Police, Queen, or the Backstreet Boys, Quebec adopted them and does not stick to its guns.[REF. After the transition in AandM, Curulewski left the band and was replaced by guitarist and vocalist Tommy Shaw.
