Roger Whittaker (1936 in Nairobi, Kenya-) is a British composer and singer who sings in English, French and German. He learned to play guitar. At age 18, Roger must do his military service. He wears the uniform for two years in a Kenyan Regiment. In 1956, demobilized, he decides to pursue a career in medicine and enrolled at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. After 18 months, he left and engages in a Department of education volunteer to become a teacher. In 1959, he moved to Britain to to further his training. It then follows courses in zoology, biochemistry and marine biology at the University of Wales. He received his bachelor. In parallel to his studies, he sang in local clubs. In 1962, Fontana Records, publishes its first title: The Charge of The Light Brigade. In the summer, his popularity increased when he appears in a variety program broadcast in Ulster. His second single, released in June 1962, appears in the British Top 30. In the spring of 1964, he met Natalie O'Brien and married 15 August of the same year. They have five children: Emily (May 28, 1968), Lauren (June 4, 1970), Jessica (February 14, 1973), Guy (November 15, 1974) and Alexander (April 7, 1978). In 1968, Whittaker change of label and, in the fall of 1969, EMI published Durham Town (The leavin' '), which became his first Top 20 in Britain. In the spring of 1970, RCA Victor Records publishes New World in The uptempo United States, disk which is among the Top 20 of the Easy Listening (a list of songs of atmosphere). He gets, between 1967 and 1980, great success in la francophonie, especially France and Quebec where it cumulates the tubes: my blue country, Le Mistral, our love, A rose for Isabelle, an elephant on my balconyetc.
