Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, born September 15, 1933 in Burgos (Castile and Leon), is a Spanish conductor. Born of German parents, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos studied violin, piano and composition at the Conservatory of Bilbao and then to Madrid while leader operettas. He then worked conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, where he graduated and won the Richard Strauss prize. His first post is at the head of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (1958-1962) before he was appointed Music Director of the national Orchestra of Spain (1962-1978). His international career then leads the head of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, of the Symphony Orchestra of Vienna, Berlin radio Symphony Orchestra. Between 1992 and 1997, he is Managing Director of music at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He is also a regular guest of the great European and American orchestras (in particular, the Philadelphia Orchestra with which he made his American debut). From 2001 to 2007, he was Chief of the Symphony Orchestra national RAI (Turin) and Music Director of the Dresden Philharmonic. He created many works of contemporary composers: Alberto Ginastera, Joaquà­n Rodrigo, Joan Guinjoan, Cristóbal Halffter, Luis de Pablo. Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos recording production is important.
