Metric is a Canadian indie rock group. He formed in 1998 in New York, but is currently based in Toronto, Ontario (Canada). The group includes initially a singer (who also plays the keyboard), Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, both Canadian, guitarist who are the founders of the group. Emily wrote, Jimmy composed. Their first demos came together under the title of Mainstream EP in 1998.Leur first album EP, Static Anonymity EP produced by Jimmy Shaw, fate in 2002.Grow up and blow away was to follow under the Restless Records label, but he leaves never following a conflict with the House of disk. These demos are still circulating on Internet(Une_réédition_de_l'album_vit_finalement_le_jour_le_26_juin_2007). At the end of the previous year, the Group expanded and became comprehensive by integrating two Americans: bassist Joshua Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key. The second album, Old World underground, Where are you now? was published in 2003 in North America. Following the emergence of the group in Olivier Assayas film Clean, the album was released in France some time after. Live it out was released on October 4, 2005 in the Canada and the United States. ' Fantasies, new album (2009) contains the new "hit" Help i'm alive. Recently, Mike Shinoda (of the Group Linkin Park) has contacted the Group on the song "gold guns Girl" (appeared on the album Fantasies) that he felt was a theme perfect for its last Glorious Excess (Dies) art exhibition. He asked the group if it was possible to do a remix for the occasion, proposal that the Group agreed. Haines and Shaw also played with Broken Social Scene and Haines was invited on the album Stars, KC Accidentall and Delirium. In 2007, Emily Haines launches a solo career with the album "Knives Don't Have You Back". Emily is the daughter of the "jazzpoet" Canadian Paul Haines (author of the libretto of "Escalator over the hill" (Carla Bley, 1971)) and the sister of Avery Haines television journalist.
