Mark Knopfler OBE is an author, composer, guitarist, British singer, born in Glasgow, Scotland on August 12, 1949, to a Hungarian father and an English mother.He grew up in Newcastle and is nicknamed "the quiet man of rock ' n'roll" in the 1980s. Founder in the summer 1977, with his brother David, group Dire Straits which means "magic" and a little more can, "than worse", he continued since 1996 a solo career. His melodies are particularly fine and adapted to its very air guitar style, a blues-country-rock style mixing phrasing of Bob Dylan with the elegant relaxation of J.J.Cale. After a break and an album with the Notting Hillbillies, and a few pin gauges as a rhythm guitarist luxury on concerts, Dire Straits adventure starts in 1991 with the album On Every Street, marked by a worldwide success after its release. Follows a tour of two years and nearly 300 concerts unprecedented. Exceeded, exhausted, Mark Knopfler decided to put an end to Dire Straits and to take back. He then Announces "we no longer want hear from Dire Straits for at least 10 years". Group reconvene again for a few appearances for charity, notably with guitarist Eric Clapton concerts, but his commercial career seems definitively over. Knopfler had enough of big concerts, big promotions and the gigantic organization resulting from the arrival of Dire Straits. He now prefers to do what he knows without pressure, and especially to make incompatible musical keys with Dire Straits (violin, bouzouki,...). Since the dissolution of Dire Straits in 1993, he has shown no interest in the reformation of the group. However, keyboardist Guy Fletcher has so far been associated with almost every piece of Knopfler's solo material and Danny Cummings has made frequent appearances on recordings, including on the solo album Kill To Get Crimson. At the height of the success of Dire Straits and to make the music more simply and without large machinery, Mark Knopfler decided a pause. In 1990 he created the Group The Notting Hillbillies of influence much more country/rockabilly than his usual group. To his chagrin, the Hillbillies (composed of himself and his friends: singer Brendan Croker, singer-guitarist Steve Philipps, the keyboard Guy Fletcher and Ed Bicknell, manager of Dire Straits, drums) had an immediate international success with their album Missing? presumed having a good time.
