Louis Knox Barlow (* 17 July 1966) is an American syndicated as a pioneer in the development of the lo-fi at the end of the Decade of the 1980s and early 1990s. Lou Barlow was born in Dayton, Ohio, but its raà­ces are located in Jackson, Michigan and Westfield, Massachusetts. He attended school in Westfield, where he met Scott Helland, with whom he formed the band Deep Wound, forerunner of hardcore punk in Massachusetts. J Mascis joined the band after answering a notice to pedà­a "a drummer to touch really fast". The band disbanded in 1984 after becoming disillusioned with the hardcore scene. Mascis and Barlow met later that same year to form the band Dinosaur, that will later be called Dinosaur Jr. Between both musicians started a very strained relationship, as, apparently, Barlow pretendà­a creative control of the band and just spoke with Mascis, leading him to leave the band after the release of the album Bug in 1989. After emigrating from Dinosaur Jr., Barlow turned his attention to his side project Sebadoh, which formed habà­a some years earlier with the multi-instrumentalist Eric Gaffney. The project includes low-fidelity recording techniques and combined introspective compositions and make them Barlow's with the melodà­as noise of Gaffney. Bassist and songwriter Jason Loewenstein is agregarà­a then to the line-up. Sebadoh's early efforts include The Freed Man from 1989 and Weed Forestin of 1990, which were then combined in the double album The Freed Weed.
