Keith Jarrett, is a pianist, saxophonist, flutist, percussionist, organist, harpsichordist, guitarist and composer born on May 8, 1945 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Born on May 8, 1945 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Keith Jarrett is a descendant of Scottish and Hungarian immigrants. He took his first piano lessons at the age of three. He gave his first concert in seven years and a recital of his own compositions to seventeen. If it refuses a scholarship in Paris with Nadia Boulanger, he accepts of the Berklee School of Music in Boston, where he formed his first trio. In 1965, left for New York, he recorded with Don Jacoby and the College all Stars and collaborates with various musicians (Roland Kirk, Tony Scott, etc.) and then part of the Jazz Messengers of Art Blakey: recorded in 1966, the album Buttercorn Lady is the only phonographic record. That same year, he integrates the Group of saxophonist Charles Lloyd (with Jack DeJohnette, Cecil McBee, or Ron McClure) and becomes the new revelation of the piano, stealing the spotlight to the leader of the group. Tour world and phonographic verbosity, saxophonist does not hesitate to let Jarrett play only at least one of his own compositions at every concert. The Group separates in 1968. Keith Jarrett then formed a trio in the company of Charlie Haden on bass and Paul Motian on drums, and began to record under his own name. In 1970, forced to play electric keyboards, he became the pianist for the Miles Davis group while leading a career as a sideman (with Gary Burton, Freddie Hubbard, Paul Motian); his trio became Quartet with saxophonist Dewey Redman, born of the Group of Ornette Coleman. Between two concerts with Miles Davis, Jarrett recorded his first opus for solo piano on ECM Facing you in 1972, a prelude to a very long association with Manfred Eicher, producer of the famous German phonographic company. Three years later, the same producer will record only Jarrett with his piano during a concert in Cologne (The Köln Concert, 1975), the album is a success who disown not with time. Later, in 1993, Nanni Moretti will use the melody of the first part of this concert in his film diary (film, 1993).
