Canela made his debut for actor in a telenovela entitled Pecados Ajenos, in which he sang the role of Alfredo Torres. He has also collaborated with Dominican singer Marie Cristal to create generic in this series. He then went to Doà±a Barbara. January 16, 2009, Canela signed a contract with Telemundo exclusivity and, in May 2009, he plays the leading role in the telenovela, Más sabe el Diablo, alongside Gaby Espino and Karla Monroig. Jencarlos is the Ambassador of Latin America for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and has worked alongside Meryl Streep, Robin Williams, and Ben Stiller to assist to help people who suffer from paralysis. November 10, 2009, Jencarlos released his first album "buscame". The first single of this album is "Amor Quédate which was released to radio on October 5, 2009 and is one of the themes of the telenovela Mas sabes El diablo.". His second album was released in February 2011.
