Freedom Call is a power metal German group formed in 1998. The Group was formed in 1998 by Chris Bay and Dan Zimmermann. They first recorded a demo of six songs with as a producer Charlie Bauerfeind (who introduced the band to several record companies). The group is then completed by Ilker Ersin bass and Sascha Gerstner on guitar. Ilker and Chris had played in the same group (Moon Doc) for a few years. The first album, entitled Stairway to Fairyland was released shortly before 1999 and, on 25 May 1999, Freedom Call made his first appearance in concert in France during the tour of Angra and Edguy groups. The end of August, Freedom Call recorded 5 tracks Mini LP of the album tarragon, with new songs, such as Dancing with tears in my eyes of Ultravox, a new version of Stairway to Fairyland, a bonus for the Japan track named Kingdom Come and a new version of Tears of tarragon with singer of SaxonBiff Byford. The end of 1999, Freedom Call recorded his second album, Crystal Empire, released early in 2001. In March 2001 Sascha Gerstner left Freedom Call to join Helloween. He was eventually replaced by Cedric "Cede" Dupont, the Swiss guitarist of Symphorce. In mid-January 2002, the new band began the recording of his new album titled Eternity. Dan and Chris produced the only album as Charlie Bauerfeind was not available at this time. However, it remained responsible for battery and mixdown records. Later in the year, they were invited to a tour with Blind Guardian. During this tour, they recorded a live album: Live Invasion with Charlie Bauerfeind in Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Munich. The pianist to the synthesizer that played with them, Nils Neumann, was then invited to become the fifth member of the group. After a long break, The Circle of Life, was recorded between August and October 2004 to finally come out in 2005. Shortly after the release of this album, Cede Dupont and Ilker Ersin decided to leave Freedom Call (independently of the other). They were finally replaced by Lars Rettkowitz and Armin Donderer, formerly member of the Paradox group. A new Dimensions album was released in April 2007 and is, as stated by Dan Zimmermann, acoustically more about Eternity, the announcing as logical.
