Robert Hall Weir (born October 16, 1947 in San Francisco, California, United States) is a singer, composer and American guitarist, founding member of the Grateful Dead. In 1963, at age 16, he met a young banjo player, Jerry Garcia, to the music of Dana Morgan of Palo Alto store. They decide to create a group and call it Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions. They begin to play in clubs and must find a shorter name. They opt for The Warlock and then finally to Grateful Dead in 1965.Bob Weir was then 17 years old. He is the Kid, the "child" of the group. Second composer in the Grateful Dead group in terms of number of composition, he played the rhythmic guitar and participates in the vocal parts during the 30 years of existence of the group. He wrote several major pieces of the group including "the other one", "sugar Magnolia", "Playing in the Band", "cassidy", "Jack straw" and "throwing stones".
