Arctic Monkeys is a group of English, originally from Sheffield and formed rock in 2002. In 2001, Alex Turner and Jamie Cook asked Christmas musical instruments and receive both a guitar. After learning to play, the pair form a group with two other students of Stocksbridge High School, Andy Nicholson and Matt Helders. Since Nicholson already played bass, Helders turns to the battery: "it's just that he left.. They all guitars had, so I bought a battery kit after some time." Helders said learned how to play self-taught, "simply equipped with a book and chopsticks". A section of the Blender magazine dated May 2006 suggests that Alex Turner was not the singer of the Group at the outset: "when their first singer, Glyn Jones, is going after a few months, Turner took the microphone". This same Glyn Jones was finally interviewed by the tabloid The Sun, where he explains that "there do not think that the Group would have been so far had he stayed with them, and that Arctic Monkeys has much changed since they were just a band of kids in a garage". June 13, 2003, they give their first concert, in a pub in Sheffield. They play essentially the occasions and affect 23 pounds on the sale of tickets. After a few performances, they begin to record demos and to burn them to CD, then distribute at the end of their sets. The number of CD being limited, fans would then exchange the pieces on the Internet.
