André Watts, born June 20, 1946 in Nuremberg is a German pianist. Born in Nuremberg, Germany, Watts was the son of a Hungarian mother, Maria Alexandra Gusmits, and an African-American father, Sergeant Herman Watts. After having studied music in Philadelphia and led the Philadelphia Orchestra, he touched a wider audience in a televised concert broadcast on all of the United States, with the Philharmonic Orchestra of New York in 1963.Il made his first world tour in 1967.Son name is generally associated with the music of the 19th century. Today, it recognizes that Maria strongly influenced his education. Working as a Secretary and then as a receptionist, she was able to ensure the maintenance of their two people and the pursuit of musical learning of his son. Watts thus was able to register at the conservatoire de musique of Philadelphia (Philadelphia Academy of Music), where he studied with Genia Robinor, Doris Bawden, and Clement Petrillo.
