Al Green, born April 13, 1946, is an author, composer, producer, American soul singer. Rocked by the pioneers of the genre (Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Solomon Burke), he was one of the most famous representatives during the 1970s. A native of Arkansas, the son of a sharecropper, it is the sixth of ten children have parents of modest condition. He began singing at the age of nine years in a quartet of Forrest City gospel that he and his 3 brothers had founded the "Greene Brothers". They went on tour in the southeastern United States in the 1950s until the family moved to Grand Rapids in Michigan. They then sing in Michigan and in the northern part of the United States (Chicago). His father the came out of the group after it he surprised being listen to Jackie Wilson. Teenager Al Green formed a group called "Al Greene and the creations" with friends from high school. Two of them, Curtis Rogers and Palmer James, created an independent label called Hot Line Music Journal. The group, soon renamed "Al Greene and the Soul matte", recorded a single for the young label, making Back up train (1967) the first tube of the Prodigy (5th of RandB sales). While the success of the Soul Mates falter, Greene met Willie Mitchell, n ° 2 of Hi Records in Memphis. The musician him hired as a singer for his group in a show in Texas and, later, did sign Greene solo.
